When I went to Ball State in the mid Eighties there were a lot of houses off campus with regular parties.
One house was known as the Thursday Night Club, another just as its address, 101 Dill.
One winter's night this band was playing in the basement of one of the houses. I staggered drunkenly into the steaming basement looking for the keg and was smacked in the face with a wall of noise vibrating the dank bricks of the foundation of the house.
It was Modern Vending, the lead singer Duncan in an adult diaper, playing a song called Genious (the mis-spelling is intentional). A noisy, thumping ode to the mis-takes of youth and a declaration of the singer's intention to return to school, this time to think with his BIG head, instead of the little one.
The band had an earnest sound coupled with a contrite, entertaining stage presence.
I saw the band several more times through-out the following 2 years, sometimes at The No-Bar & Grill, sometimes in the basement or living room of a GDI party. Always loud, always entertaining.
Last year I was flipping through the vinyl section of a local music store (Orbit Music) and came across a limited-edition clear vinyl pressing of thier only LP release, One Bad Peccary.
I ripped the vinyl to WAV and figured I would share it here.
As far as I am aware, this LP is out of print, and very difficult to obtain (Doug at Orbit claims that he has at least ten more tucked into his basement at home).

There are several favorites on this album.
I really like King of Dirt, In A Ditch, Tiny Alice, Dick Fan Dyke and Hook's Brand Jesus.
All of the cuts are good though.
The one complaint I have is that the engineering could be better. Most of the LP sounds like it was recorded live, and suffers from the inevitable "thunky" drum sound.
